Brizzi’s Experience Investigating the Chinese Government
In February 1997, I was a 29 year old deputy prosecutor investigating white-collar crime and complex criminal cases, the kind that involve a myriad of witnesses and suspects. As chance would have it, one evening I decided to attend a meeting conducted by then Representative Dan Burton where he discussed his investigation into allegations that the Chinese government sought to influence U.S. policy through illegal political donations.
That decision changed my life. I resigned from the prosecutor's office and moved my young family to Washington to serve as counsel to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform - joining 20 former prosecutors, lawyers and investigators.
My job focused on hunting down alleged illegalities in campaign fundraising efforts coordinated by the Clinton White House and the Democratic National Committee. Specifically, whether foreign governments attempted to influence our elections and U.S. policy. Sound familiar?
From the earliest stages of the investigation we uncovered evidence of Chinese government officials using what we called "laundering conduits" to funnel illegal campaign contributions to the Clinton-Gore reelection effort. These laundering conduits were often portrayed as low level functionaries but who actually had ties to Chinese intelligence.
I traveled throughout Asia with a team of investigators, formerly FBI and CIA, attempting to track down the origin of these illegal funds. I can tell you we were obstructed at every step in our attempt to expose Chinese corruption and cover-up. It's an understatement to say that the Chinese government was uncooperative, blocking access to witnesses and relevant evidence.
Mao once said, "Everything under heaven is in utter chaos, the situation is excellent." As this virus spreads throughout the world, the stakes are raised to a level more dangerous than illegal campaign contributions. Watching the media coverage this weekend, I am convinced the Chinese government and their allies on the left will attempt to exploit this coronavirus crisis to upturn the existing global order.
Over the next month, I will detail for you my firsthand experiences of the campaign finance investigation to demonstrate my direct witness to the Chinese agenda, lies and censorship. I don't have an issue with the Chinese people, but we should not trust the Chinese government. They are masters at distraction and misinformation.
We all have a duty to be as informed as possible. If you agree, please forward this email to a few friends.
Stay safe and vigilant.
