The Rot of Socialism
Human beings, this one included, sometimes blame others for failures or frustrations, thereby relieving ourselves of the responsibility for our own problems. We sometimes waste precious time and energy complaining, and seeking redress, rather than taking extreme ownership over our own lives and affairs. This kind of thinking is a pathological defense mechanism that stems from resentment, envy and entitlement. It's also the root mindset of socialists. The problem with socialism in practice is that it's incompatible with human nature. Working for the collective good disincentivizes creativity and excellence, because there is no financial reward for it. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
If half the nation believes that they don't have to work because the other half is going to provide for them, how long will it take for the first half to conclude that working is counter-productive? Is it fair that the non-worker gets what the worker provides? How long can that go on before it becomes a recipe for the end of a nation?
We are all responsible for improving our own lives, difficult and time-consuming as that quest is. The antidote to both socialism and resentment is individual reflection and action. I am hopeful for the future of America -- but we must all fight together for that future.
We must be engaged in the culture war, working to win the hearts, minds, and votes of the youngest Americans. As President Ronald Reagan said, "freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction."
